"My husband, Zachary, and I have known each other for years. Our families have always been friends, and his dad was my sister's volleyball coach before I was even born! When Zac was young, his family moved over seas, and he did not move back to Kentucky until after he graduated high school. He moved to Lexington to attend UK, and he just so happened to be living right around the corner from me. A few years later, he came into the pharmacy that I was working at with a medical question, and that is when we reconnected. After a few months of pursuing me, I finally agreed to go on a date with him! On our second date, Zac looked at me and said, "I am serious about this. You will be my wife one day." I thought he was insane, but part of me knew he was right. We have been inseparable ever since, and I am happy to say that I am now married to my very best friend."
On July 1st, 2016, Kayla and Zachary tied the knot. Here is what Kayla had to say when asked about her special day!
What is your favorite thing about your dress?
I loved everything about my dress, so this is a hard question! I loved how lightweight my Penelope gown was. I wanted a dress that I would feel like myself and be able to have fun, and I hated all the heavy and uncomfortable dresses I tried on before this one.
What was the highlight of choosing Rebecca's Wedding Boutique?
I had searched for my dress for days online and in three different cities. I was near the point of giving up when my girls and I stumbled upon Rebecca's. I walked in to look around, and they told me they were booked completely for the day. They had someone leave a few minutes early, and they were kind enough to let me look around for about 15 minutes before their next appointment. Within that 15 minute time period, I found my dress, tried it on, fell in love, and purchased it. I knew as soon as it was on my body that it was the one. The staff at Rebecca's went out of their way to help me that day, and I would not have found my dream dress without them!
What advice would give to brides currently looking for a gown?
Don't settle! I was close to buying a dress in my hometown that I semi-liked, just because I could not find anything else. Ultimately, I would not have been happy with anything but the Penelope gown, and I am so happy I didn't settle!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
My husband and I are not very traditional. It was our wedding day, and we wanted to spend every moment of the day together! We started with breakfast in the morning and running a few errands, then as soon as I had my dress and makeup on we were reunited again. We spent the afternoon frolicking around as the photographer took our photos, we held hands as we read our vows to each other, and we never left each other's side at the reception. Being with Zachary all day was my favorite part of the whole day.
How did your groom react when he saw you in your dress?
Zac loved my dress! I had been building it up for months, and he said it definitely lived up to his expectations.
What was it that made you decide on that theme or style for your wedding?
If I had to pick two words to describe our wedding I would choose: relaxed and bohemian. We wanted our wedding day to be a reflection of our personalities and our love for each other. Every detail of the wedding did this. All the decorations were taken from our own house (even most of the bohemian rugs that line the aisle). We had a light-hearted and beautiful ceremony. From the best man giving us the wrong ring and causing a laughter from the audience to the song that Zachary had recorded for me, everything turned out beautifully. We truly had the best day.
What made you decide on your venue location(s)?
We chose the Loudoun House in Lexington, KY because of how unique it was! We had looked at several venues, and none of them fit our personalities. We wanted something completely different from any wedding we had ever been to, and the Loudoun House did that. The art gallery at the house is what sold us! During our wedding, there was an in-residence artist, and he had created some gorgeous pieces for the house that were displayed during our wedding.
Kayla, you looked absolutely stunning in your wedding dress! Congratulations to you and Zachary on your beautiful wedding day and marriage!
